IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON WATER & WASTEWATER INFRASTRUCTURE
Infrastructure Services Group LLC strongly embraces the relationship between climate, weather, and water and wastewater infrastructure.
The US currently has 1.6 million miles of water and wastewater pipeline. Much of it is more than 100 years old. A water main breaks every 2 minutes in this country, resulting in the loss of 2 trillion gallons of treated water annually. Alongside decaying infrastructure, extreme weather exacerbated by climate change is contributing to major pipeline challenges.
As the planet continues to warm, leading to more frequent and severe storms, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, and other extreme weather events, the demand for water and wastewater infrastructure repair and rehabilitation is expected to increase dramatically.
